The Childcare Centre was opened in January of 2013 because of the recognized need by the BCIT community for childcare services on the BCIT Burnaby campus. In particular, it was recognized that those families with young children whose parents were striving to educate themselves, would not be able to attend the excellent educational opportunities provided by BCIT unless they could have childminding support for their young children. Thus the students of the day, through their Student Association, and in collaboration with the leadership team of BCIT, pushed for and supported the construction and operation of the Childcare Centre with support from their student fees.
